Richard Mento, casting director of the STEP UP trilogy as well as "Wimbledon", "Rumour has it", "Must love dogs" and many more films will be in Australia this weekend and next week to be involved with the casting process for GLEE Club Australia's LA tour in December.
RICHARD MENTO's casting career began at LIVENT, the theatrical production company, alongside such musical theatre luminaries as Frank Galati and Graciela Daniele(RAGTIME), Susan Stroman (SHOW BOAT), Gwen Verdon and Ann Reinking (FOSSE),and thelegend, Harold Prince (SHOW BOAT, PARADE). Looking to expand his "mental rolodex"of actors (and add a few that neither sang nor danced), he segued into television casting at CBS and Sony Pictures TV. His film work and association with Joanna Colbert began in 2003 andColbert/Mento Casting was formed in early 2008. Selected film credits include: The "Step Up" dance trilogy, "Sorority Row," "The Wackness" (2008 Sundance Audience Award - Drama), "Chloe,""Dear John," "Youth in Revolt," "Remember Me," and the upcoming films "Everything Must Go," "Cedar Rapids," and the "Untitled Ivan Reitman Project."
Auditions are open to singers and dancers aged 13 - 31. We understand that it is a strange age bracket, but we seem to have had a lot of interest from 30 year olds who will turn 31 during the project.
There is a documentary being made about the project. This has been funded and green lit. It is being produced by circe films and title "Bright Lights". It has been funded thus far by Film Victoria. There have been stories in the project on the TODAY show and in local media.
Auditions are being held in Sydney on Saturday 14th August, Friday 20th August and Sunday 22nd August, by appointment. Saturday 14th is nearly full. There is availability next week. Auditions are also being held in Perth next week.
This is a training experience, not a paid gig, but as you will see, it is an amazing opportunity. The selected cast go to LA and work with amazing casting directors, musical directors, choreographers and producers. We guarantee the quality of this project as we do with all our projects.
